Apeks Vs Poseidon

I love the old Cyclon 300, but I don't care for the newer Poseidons. Frankly I think you should be choosing between Apeks and Hog (and I'd go Hog).

Now I'm confused, since the Cyklon is still alive and well. The only difference is that the current Cyklon 5000 has a higher flow rated balanced 1st stage instead of the unbalanced 1st of the 300 . . . otherwise identical, and still available in full metal as well.

I can appreciate that, but frankly, there isn't much difference . . . . the 2nd's are identical, and the first is simply balanced now, but disassembly is pretty much the same drill - check the manual. I didn't find anything I didn't like about my 300's, but upgraded the 1st's when I had a chance, simply for the balancing and higher flow rates (not that I could ever overbreath a 300 1st . . . ). More the principle of the thing . . .

My line exactly when asked why I still use "those old Poseidons". The only thing I note is that when recommending a reg to someone else, your comfort level with one 1st over another really isn't a factor to someone else . . . . unless you have had a problem with one or another of them, and then that needs to be stated . . .

The DS4's are great and not expensive. For me the hose routing is fine whatever they are mounted on. When on doubles the new flexible braided hoses are great for the tighter turns of the inflator and Back-up hoses eliminating what some people didn't like, especially on alumiunum tanks. They are also great for stages so can be migrated over there if you ever go that route. That's what I did and have now moved to FST/TX100's which I like slightly better for doubles. Never had a problem with any of them.

Poseidon regs are no more difficult to have serviced than any other reg. You may not be able to get them serviced at your nearest 5 star shop, but you can still get them serviced for a cost that's comparable to other regs.

As for Poseidons being more expensive, that's not correct either.

the Mk3 regs use standard hoses.

I read/heard different reasons for people not wanting to use Poseidon regulators, but price and service (this isn't the 90's) shouldn't be among those reasons. Their prices are in line with other high end regs.

Poseidon: Pros: Supported over the long term. A Poseidon reg bought in the 1970's still has 100% parts support. They don't force you to replace due to parts support removal.
