Hi,

I didn`t find a thread to this - so if there should be one, just tell me.

I read about a difference in the TX seconds depending on the CE standard.
The balance chamber for the european ones is slightly modified, in the way that the spring pressure is increased. So the breathing effort from the US version is much better.

Is this so? And if so, are the differences remarkable?

I haven't tried the American version but the European ones can be tuned to breathe feather-light. I can't imagine the American ones being significantly different let alone significantly better.....

The European version has to meet CE standards. The US version is slightly better out of the box. Its not hard to change the European version to breath better. IMO, there is nothing wrong with it, and the US versions are too sensitive anyways. The mod that is required is covered in the Airspeed Press book. You have to cut back a part in the second stage (the end of the balance chamber, there is a long stem that sticks out, it should be shortened about 2mm).

This I recognise. You have to tune a (European) Apeks out of the box or it breathes a little heavy. Strangely the LX supreme, which mechanically is very nearly identical, doesn't have this problem.

True that the balance chamber in the older Apeks models have an additional stem that increases breathing resistance slightly in order to meet CE standards. The newer balance chamber, in the ATX-200 and the Legend series, doesn't have that extension and actually doesn't meet CE standards "straight out of the box." In order to meet these standards, the adjustment knob itself has a small stem that can be extended in order to provide the same effect as putting it on the balance chamber. This may explain the difference between the EU and US versions. In a newer model, turn the stem in the adjustment knob back 1/4 turn and in the older version, just cut the stem off of the balance chamber (it works, but only if you use it only in warm water). Alternatively, in an older unit, replace the chamber with one from a newer unit.

It's the same thing. The black pearl just has a different look and a higher pricetag.

okay, so ours breathe a little heavier.. however they are cheaper in the UK (they make them here!) and we can get 100% o2 versions from the factory! (for about £15 more on the ATX series - the TX are the same price)

Hi there,

thanks a lot for the helpful replys.
This will make my decision much more easier!

WOW US vs European? I have the ATX200 and am quite satisfied with it! I never felt it hard to breathe in!
