I picked the Apeks WTX harness. Because I dive recreationally and primarily in singles, both boat and shore, it made sense to get the harness setup. It is very comfortable and secure. It can also take a backplate if I desire a double tank dive. To me, it is the best of both worlds.

For those of you not familiar with this setup, it is similar to the DiveRite TransPac. Both are well made but the Apeks Harness seems to be extremely well built and durable. I only have the older version of the TransPac and it did serve me well but it will now just end up on ebay.

I am looking at purchasing a backplate style bc but would like some recomendations or input. I would mainly use it for single tank diving in tropical environments. I have been doing some reading between Apeks or Halcyon but would like some input on which route to take. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have not used the Apeks, so I can't comment on that. I do have several of the Halcyon and I have been extremely happy with them. If it is single tank warm water diving you might want to consider this:
30 lbs Eclipse MC System with Aluminim Backplate | Extreme Exposure
If you are open to other ideas I would look at Deep Sea Supply and Oxycheq. This is a great oxycheq singles wing for single tank tropical diving:
OxyCheq Mach V Signature Wing, DIR and Technical, OxyCheq, OxyCheq Mach V Signature Wing

I have the Apeks BP/W with a #32 wing for singles and the integrated sure lock weights....it dives great. I also have the Apeks BP with a Halycon harness and a Zeagle #44 wing for doubles...dives no problem.

Look around, The nice thing about the Apeks BP is that it is machined to allow tank straps so no STA required and I was able to get it in Stainless at a good deal compared to other companies.

Its all top notch equipment with some small details that might impress or annoy. Try things out!

Go to the Deep Sea Supply sub forum in the manufacturer's section.

What Apeks rig did you buy that costs $700 LESS than a similar Halcyon rig? That pricing sounds completely out of whack... I am wondering if someone gave you some bad pricing or misunderstood what you were looking for.
The reason why I say this is because full retail (and you can easily find discounts) on a full H setup with 60lbs. wing and steel backplate is $665:
60 lbs Evolve MC System with Stainless Steel Backplate | Extreme Exposure

That is the cost for supporting your local dive shop. The halcyon setup priced at close to 1500 for 55 lb bladder steal plate, harness, pockets, and single tank adapter. The apex prices around 790 for the same setup give or take. Thats what happens when you buy locally in a place where the dive business is not big.

I'm pretty sure the majority of Halcyon dealers don't discount the products. But I've never heard of one more than doubling the price. That's going beyond the cost of supporting your local dive shop. If I had a shop around me that was charging that, I wouldn't be going into their shop any time soon.

Where in Japan are you? We have DSS plates and wings in stock here so you can actually try one on if you desire. We also carry Dive Rite gear. For BP/W the best plates set-ups I reccomend are DSS. What type of diving do you tend to do and what type do you plan on doing in the future?
If you are up north doing mostly cold water diving a singles rig with a Tourus 26 is very popular. There are some other rigs we can suggest also a depending on weight considerations and tanks. You can give me a call at 090-1940-3528 on my cell from anywhere in Japan.

They were absolutely ripping you off, that sucks. I'm just saying that was that was not Halcyon's fault, and not Halcyon's pricing, it was the LDS.... If they had given you regular pricing the cost would have been very close. I don't know how a place like that would get any business marking things up 100% over msrp.

I use the Halcapeks System....which is an Apeks backplate, single with and harness, with the enhancements of the Halcyon MC pack, Argon straps, and single tank weighted adapter. Works great, but to do over I'd use the Halcyon wing. I like the idea of having releasable pockets if/when I use them.
