OK. Am gonna to do the Divemaster and Instructor courses with a view to working in the industry. I don't know where I'm gonna end up so cold water is a consideration, I don't know exactly what kind of diving I may progress to so Nitrox of 40+ is a consideration and servicing is ALWAYS a consideration.

I am looking at the Apeks ATX 100 or 200 and the Aqua-lung Legend LX, and I wondered if anyone on the board could give me their views, good or bad?!

I've read all the usual reviews but the more feedback the better.

Cheers in advance. DG.

One consideration you might think about, especially if you are planning on travelling, is ease of service / availablility of parts. Apex is now distributed by Aqualung, but you might it easier to get parts for aqualung in more rural locations.

I may be totally off on this one, as I've never worked in the tropics, but I heard from colleagues that sometimes it can be a pain in the butt. And unless you will be a service tech as well, USD is considered by some to be easier to service, and a larger brand, therefore might be easier to find a qualified technician. By far not your first consideration...but definately one of them.

Apeks and Aqualung are both readily available. They are both excellent regs and Apeks is sold in North America through Aqualung (USD). I can't speak for availability outside NA.

I have two Legend LX that I love. Probably the easiest breathing reg available, easy to service even on a boat. I always carry at least one complete, 1st & 2nd stages, rebuild kit at all times.

Either one will serve you well and you'll not be disappointed.

That's like choosing between a Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis?

More or less the same thing.

Both are excellent regulators.

Kestrell hit it. The Legend is modelled on the famous Apeks ATX200. The 100 is a little harder to get in north america but servicability is the same. As far as performance, I understand that the Legend breathes a little better, but it is negligable. I think (know) you would be happy with either so it is ok to save a little in this case and go with the one that is a little cheaper.
Excellent regs lifetime warranty, and parts for life. They are all regs that you will never outgrow.

I have two LX Supremes for a year and a half now. They are the best breathing regs I have ever used (I have taken them to 220 feet so far).

Apeks are also good regulators. I think that the Apeks were the choice up until the LX Supremes came out but, if I could buy them for a lot less, I would not have a problem with using the Apeks.

Thanks all for the reponses so far. Looks like I'm gonna have to toss a coin on this one! :D One good thing is that I live about 10 miles from the Apex factory in Blackburn UK so I might just wander round and see what they say...from the horses mouth so to speak.

If anything interesting comes out....I'll let you know.
