LOL- while rinsing my gear today I decided to try to unscrew the faceplates since you all seem to be able to get them off so easily. They came off no problem, and I was able to get them rotated back on all the way with reasonable pressure. Of course, the reason I was able to do this was because I ordered the special tool online the other day. :shakehead Some lessons you just have to learn the hard way. I should have listened to you guys and tried it one last time before I bought the dang tool. Oh well, tool collecting isn't bad, is it?

Bob3:
The "AT31 front cover tool" is just an adjustable face spanner, available at better hardware stores .(or Scubatools)

The AT31A is the fancy round gizmo with 1 pin in the concave surface.
I'll have to dig through my paperwork to find the cost, (I'm guessing maybe $35) but your local AquaLung / Apeks dealer shouldn't have a problem ordering one for you.
OOPS!

This tool is also used by your local Glazier! Go to a glass shop and ask them to order this tool for you... They can order it from CRL (C R Laurence) and the cost is under $20

Believe it or not but old Pontiacs and Honda CRX's need this tool!
