Most of my diving will be in either the Caribbean, Florida, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe, Australia etc. I'm interested in AOW diving including wrecks and caverns, with a possibility of tech diving if the wallet allows. At the LDS I told the salesman that I was researching Aqualung regs but he thought that Apeks regs are the way to go (he sells both). He liked the Apeks for their durability and freeflow resistance. Since I do a lot of traveling he thought that going with a DIN 1st stage and a DIN to Yoke converter would be necessary. Is this overkill or a good investment?

I use an Apeks for my rec rig. The Aqua Lung Legends are overbalanced as are the Apeks. I went with the Apeks because I think the gold colored ring is ugly. Essentially the same reg. I use a DIN connection on mine and I carry a converter. My tanks are DIN valved. However, I do not believe that you have to do it this way. Most places that deal with tourists use yoke valves.

By the way, Aqua Lung owns Apeks. They bought them so they could get the overbalanced technology.

I also think that if and when you go tech, that you will probably use a DIN connection on your rec rig. You could view it as getting ahead of the curve.
