How is the dry mouth situation with the apeks regs. I am diving a sherwood maximus right now and never had a dry mouth problem.
I will switch to an Apeks ATX100.
I was wondering if anybody had any problems with dry mouth on an Apeks????

Dry mouth, contrary to popular opinion, is caused more by being dehydrated than by breathing dry air. Having said that, when I get thirsty I just take my regulator from my mouth and take a drink. But then, I dive in the Great Lakes.

I am considering buying the Maximus. Could you tell me why you are switching?
My most important criteria are comfort and mobility. From everything I read I decided that Maximus is the most comfortable. Any comments?

I disagree. All other things being equal some regulators are noticeably worse than others and in general dry mouth has become a much grreater problem over the last 20 years as first metal second stages then metal air barrels in second stages were replaced by plastic.

The metal parts of the second stage transfer heat and as such are cooler than the expired air that moves past them. Moisture in exhaled air condenses on the cooler air and the drier inhaled picks up a small amount of this moisture - enough to reduce dry mouth.

In the "old days" dry mouth was all but unheard of and divers did not drink any more then than they do now.
