LOL - reminds me of something my uncle told me years back ... "You're 21 now, time to get drunk" ...

I sure hope there's more point to the deep dive than simply getting narced. A little bit of dive planning and gas management would sure come in handy ...

No, just get narced. Nothing else matters. :rofl3:

No reason to. When I took my AOW class, I had already taken rescue and had over 50 dives (and had current CPR and First Aid certs). When I finished the class, I got a Master Diver cert/card. There was no need to ever get an AOW card.

yeah I didnt see it either... which is why I was thinking, If I'm a OW diver with over 50 dives and then complete 4 specialties and Rescue diver why would I apply/pay for an AOW cert when I could go right to the Master ? I dont find the idea of paying for AOW and then again for Master very appealing.

The word "most" is all that keeps the statement(s) from being an outright lie.

LA County Advanced beats SSI Advanced hands down.

NAUI Master Diver beats SSI Master Diver hands down.

While on the subject of Master diver. I ask the owner of my dive shop about getting certified as a "Masterdiver" he looked at me and asked "why" he said its just a card and doesn't mean anything to "anybody" ( I know alot of quotes) He said the only thing people look at is what you've been certified in, being a Master diver doesn't mean anything. Your opinion?

Tom

In most cases he's right, "Master Diver" means that you've collected a certain number of specialty cards and not a whole lot more. In the case of NAUI, however, it means that you have the knowledge expected of, and dive at the level expected of, a NAUI Instructor with the exception of the teaching and student management stuff.

Surprising reaction from the owner. By asking about getting certified as a Master Diver, you were basically saying you wanted to take a rescue class and get certified in CPR and First Aid. imo, that should always be encouraged.

I'm just glad this discussion isn't about fishing. The levels of skill involved in putting the worm on the hook are: Novice baiter, Advanced baiter and Master******.:no

As far as I can tell (but I haven't looked at all the different agencies) a Master Diver is just an AOW with 50 dives. I think PADI charges something like $50 for the card. So you can save $50 and just show someone your log book.

This is different from a Dive Master. I believe Dive Master is vastly different from agency to agency.

I know that for SSI and PADI, it is not just AOW and 50 dives. As mentioned above, a rescue class is required, which then also requires CPR and First aid certification.

Never-the-less, it is not an integrated course and curriculum designed to result in a predefined level of knowledge and ability, it is just recognition that you've completed a series of other courses that should speak for themselves.
