It feels like i am tearing my ear off everytime I put my hood on, and as tight as it fits, the pressure against my piercing kills!
Maybe this goes away with time, but I am 6 months post-piercing, and thats the easiest way to put me in pain.

Furner, I have a cartlidge piercing and use a hood all the time. I haven't had any problems yet. (knock on wood.) I was wondering if you'd mind letting me know if you used a true piercer or a gun? $30 or $7? (If you did it at home... it might be your issue.) Just my humble opinion.

Is your ears folded at all under your hood?

maybe your hood is too tight or your wearing a piercing that is too large. hood should fit fine and depending on your piercing should not be painful or uncomfortable.

I had it professionally done ($45). The next size hood left way too much space up top. I havnt tried my hood on in a few weeks, maybe things have healed some since then, I am just afraid to try it again because of what happened last time.
On a related note, I was afraid in the past of my tongue piercing getting in the way, but I seem to notice MANY scuba related folks with them, so I figure that it isnt a serious problem.
It makes me shiver when someone tells me they got theirs done with a gun. Dont know a single person who has had it heal properly, or last more than a year or two. Yick.

The gun for peircing is bad news for sure! I also had my tognue pierced and it didn't effect my diving at all.
I hope all works out with your hood.. Let us know.

FYI...I dive cold water all the time with a hood...I take all of my 13 ear peircings out....especially if I am going hoodless in warm water. But when it comes to diveing, I just don't really want to worry about them..so I go piercing less....

just a thought, but has anyone heard about any diver getting bitten by fish who thought their shiney jewelry was a fishing lure???

I've thought of that but won't have to worry about it anytime soon. I dive cold so until I go without a hood, and drysuit, it shouldn't be a problem. When I retire, I'll have to take out those piercing! ;)
