Hi, I was in scuba diving store today buying an inflator hose and came across a pair of Taiwanese fins that looks similar to the Scubapro Jet Fins.

I'm just wondering if they perform the same and the reliabikity as it only cost 1/2 the price of the SP Jet Fins.

Aropec Rubber Jet Fins.

Give them a shot and see how they do. There are only so many ways to make the same rubber fin.

Thanks... it cost around RM310 AT LDS. Means around USD73.80

We carry some aropec gear, pretty solid stuff, not the sp jet style fin but the Hollis bat fin style. Very good fin.

IMO they are not the same, I returned mine for a refund.

Thanks buddhasummer, I've read all the 3 links u've given and it's funny that u have to keep emphasizing that u weren't complaining about the quality of the product and they are just different fins and the comments wen't all the way into politics and global economics...

I'm not sure if SP is still making their fins at Taiwan, but I guess Aropec might have an access to the mould.

Thanks for your reply again as helpful as always.

BTW, other than the propulsions of this type of fins, what are the other advantages of this wide short fins when it comes to recreational diving?

Yeah, quality wise they were the much the same although having said that the finish in the Taiwanese jets was a better IMO.

Jets i I think are good if you need the weight, pin point finning or dive in confined spaces. I'm a Large which has a very short blade. I gave up on them. Not sure how much larger the blade surface is on the larger models. I think there are better recreational fins out there, the Mares Avanti Quattros and the DiveRite XTs to name two.

All Jets currently sold through SP in Japan are the Taiwanse models, I believe that is also the case in other parts of Asia. Interestingly the Taiwanese Jets aren't popular here at all. Not sure if their reason is that they are Taiwanese or that they are a softer compound. I suspect it might be the former, I have spoken to a few locals who said as much.

As with most things it's largely about personal preference and/or hype.

Thanks again. Heard GULL is having their own version of "jet fin" soon. I'll just wait and dive with my current GULL MEW for the time being till I make up my mind.

BTW buddhasummer, if u happen to come to Peninsula Malaysia, please be my guest and we can go for a short diving trip at the East Coast during the dive season. But do let me know in advance. Package here is pretty reasonable with pretty coral reefs amd warm water.

Thank you for your very kind offer, I'd love to take you up on it one day, when is the best time of the year for diving?

Over here you can buy a ScubaPro branded (I suspect manufactured by Gull) but made in Japan a fin very similar to the Jet, called Jet Fin Revo, although look nicer, not as heavy and are a little softer so foot pocket is more comfortable. It only comes in two sizes, regular 25cm-27cm or Grande 27-29cm I think. They used to come in a variaty of colours but now only black or white. I owned a pair, I liked them but I have very small feet and the regular was a tad large. You can get them for around ¥15,000 ($125) spring straps are extra. I have no idea if they interest you or not but if so let me know, I'm sure I can help get you a pair, shipping by EMS is quite reasonable.

I'll keep my eye out for the Gull "jet fin".
