Noticed a few people had bought the book, wondered if anyone was doing drils, playing swim golf, etc....

I try to mix in 6 x 50s of drills and 6 x 50s of swim golf in my workout, usually the warm up.

Drills are a little frustrating to get right, I usually do a 25 then FS back to complete the 50. I am up to the single underswitch. Not very good at it.

Swim golf, I am averaging around 65-70, usually 35 seconds and 30-35 strokes for the 50. If I use a pull buoy, my stroke count goes down dramatically (26 vs. 30) but that's cheating a bit

Hi

I just bought the book but it will probably be a while until I get it. I'm not a competitive swimmer and only got into swimming laps a couple of years ago.
I swim in the mornings about 3x per week because there's a great pool right beside where I work . . .

I guess I have 2 goals:
- improve my technique
- get some help in setting goals/drills for myself as I tend to do the same thing all the time. At the moment I jump in the pool and do about 600m FS, warmdown and jump out and go to work.

What's swim golf?

Hi Annie - swim golf is discussed a little in the book. Essentially, for efficient swimming, you want to take as few strokes in the pool as you can while still maintaining efficient speed. You just need to make the strokes more effective.

Swim golf is a drill where you do a set amount, say 50 yds. You add your time in seconds to your number of strokes. Key is to go faster but not increasing stroke count.

I'd suggest starting to read the book as soon as you can, I think it will help your swimming. I think you'll also see some improvement if, instead of swimming a long distance all at once, you workout in sets. you can find some online, for example at trinewbies.com (don't let the name intimidate you, it's not just for triathletes, etc)

I bought the book several months ago, started reading it, got distracted, and need to pick it up again.

Then, all that's left is working in some time every day to do the drills...
