Anyone in the Detroit area still doing any local dives this time of year?

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in doing any dives locally in the next few weeks. I'll be in Florida the week after Christmas, so I won't be able to make the New Year's dive at Gilboa unfortunately. I'm most interested in a quick dive or two in Monroe because I haven't yet been there, even though it's much closer to home than the Ohio quarries.

That said I would be up for any diving in any body of water between Jan. 5th and Jan. 13th. Anyone interested or is the diving pretty much done until spring?

White Star Quarry is open on a limited schedule for the winter for the first time in it's history. Along with the first ever New Years Day Dive at White Star, the quarry will be open January 5 - 6, February 2-3, and March 1-2. We are hoping to have ice in February but right now it is open water and super clear.

Hope to see you down there.

That's great to hear Rich. Any thought to making it open by appointment? Say if a group of divers wanted to come down, or we get ice and instructors want to teach?

You picked a great time to move up here. I guess there's a decent amount of snow in the Metro area.

Welcome to the area, enjoy the snow and crazy drivers that go with it. If you're still interested in some diving after the holidays and are looking for a novice buddy just let me know or PM me, I'd love to go for a dive or two.

White Star can be opened by appointment. If you have a class or a group that wants to come to the quarry in winter we can make arrangements. There are a couple of restrictions that we have to abide by but they are not hard to deal with (i.e. minimum number of paying people and I have to have a staff member on site with you etc. ) We can't run the compressors in the winter however so you will need to bring tanks or let us know what you need.

As for the trimix question that came up... if you got the certification we got the mix at our store in Ann Arbor (Divers Incorporated.) We can do it while you wait if you have a helium analyzer otherwise we want to give the mix a day to settle before we log it. In the winter you have to give us a couple of days notice because we do not keep helium bottles in the store normally from end of November until March. In the summer we have it on hand almost every day.

Looking forward to diving with you

Rich
