There seems to be less dive books and magazines on the bookshelves these days? I can only speak for my observations but when you go into a chain bookstore like Chapters you will find more books and magazines on surfing than you can on diving. Rather interesting as living in Southwestern Ontario I don't see a large amount of people surfing when I go to the beach.
Now, I am not knocking surfing at all as I might try windsurfing one of these days myself. Surfing is definitely very cool and many divers are also into surfing and other watersports. I am just perplexed as to why this is inventory trend is occuring, especially when diving is far more accessible in this area.
Discounting the fact that chain stores carry a consistent product offering in all of their stores in a wide geographic area I wonder if we are not seeing actual confirmation that scuba diving has lost the general public interest over the last few years? After all, retailers carry what people seem to wish to purchase. Or is this a trend that is due to more internet use and less general reading?
In the end, diving is more of a "do" activity than a "read" activity but I wonder where the future divers will come from without books and magazines on the subject to to get them interested in the first place. What are your thoughts?
