I am setting up some gear, and I need some unique lengths and fittings.

Does anyone make their own hoses, or know of a shop that does?

Has anyone tried that thing on Ebay where you make your own hoses?

MiFlex in the UK will make you custom lengths - perhaps they have a distributor in the US who would do the same?

Not cheap hoses, though!

I think Beano was considering making his own.......
Sounds like something I might like to try myself.
Unfortunately Trident doesn't sell to end users so we can't get parts from them.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Either make my own, or know someone who has the hydraulic press to attach the fittings.

My hydro guy in the Pacific had his own press, and I could just ask him for a size and it would show up with the fresh hydros. And of course dirt cheap is a nice price. The other advantage was that I could start with a 20" size and then whittle it down.

That's why the eBay make your own thing was appealing. Start with a hose and keep cutting off bits until the size is just right.

Once I know the size I need, putting in an order for ten of them is no big deal.

(Also this all ties in with the "trying to hard wire the Dive Alert into the middle of the inflator hose, instead of at the end, where OW students might accidentally push the button and make me deaf for life" idea I am working on: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/accessories/259494-hard-wired-dive-alert-comments-suggestion.html

XS Scuba is the US distributor for Miflex. I don't think they do "custom hose length" because of the issue of having to order it from overeas for a single hose isn't cost productive.

as for their hoses not being cheap, I saw a comparison price on a nother thread on Miflex in the US verses in the UK and I was surprised to see that they were cheaper in the US. (maybe it's a volume thing? dunno).

Hose and the hydraulic press is the easy bit, the fittings are not.

We used to make our own hoses using "Synflex" hose its available from most hydraulic companies in small rolls, about 10 metres per roll.
The hydraulic companies will also have the press needed to crimp the fittings on, so no need to buy your own. Here, if you buy the hose from them they just crimp the fittings on for you, no charge.

However, obtaining the scuba fittings is difficult, they are not standard fittings, so not easily available "over the counter" - generally scuba companies / distributors want to sell you a complete hose, (go figure!) not a few fittings, so few want to sell them loose. At one point we managed to import a few dozen from an agent in Taiwan, but "alas" have since been unsuccessfull in getting more, especially the HP hose fittings.

Making a hose is dead simple with the right equipment and will only cost you about a third of the cost of buying a complete hose, however, if you find someone prepared to sell the loose fittings, please let me know as well.

In communicating with that Swedish hose guy on eBay, it sounds like he has the right idea. Order from him, the order is drop-shipped from the Manufacturer in China.

If you want to get the fittings, (and you speak/read Chinese) you could order from the Swedish guy, and trace back to his supplier.

Obviously for my uses, I have no need to source fittings. For now I going to get the eBay guy to send me bulk hose and fittings. Then I can make my own lengths, and even make double enders. Which is a big part of my custom needs.

Hey beanojones,

Could you maybe forward me a link or something to the Swedish company or person, I am interested in discussing buying fittings from him.

Hello Widget,

I think this is the guy: http://stores.ebay.com/Euro-Diving-Zone

Check these out on eBay, they look similar to the fittings we used when I was in the commercial diving business. Some of the fittings needed only a couple of wrenches to install, others needed a special mandrill.

He also sells bulk hose.

While the fitting may seem expensive, once you have all the fittings you need, it is just a matter of changing the hose after that.
