Anyone know Club Cantamar in La Paz, Baja?

We are thinking of making a trip to La Paz in October of this year - and we like the looks of the Club Cantamar from their web site. The prices sure seem too go to be true - $727 per person for all meals, 7 nights and 5 days of diving! The dive op with the package is Baja Diving and Service.

Has anyone dove with them - or heard any good or bad things about them?

Also - anyone ever did a layover in Mexico City? We don't speak spanish and I guess I am a little nervous we might end up in the wrong place. My husband tells me I should live a little!

Hi Ms. Tina,

Yes, I have, and it's a very nice property.

The package is right as prices in this region have not yet caught up with Cancun, Cozumel & Cabo, and because Oct is the low season. The dive op is a good one, although IMHO not the very best in the area. My guess is you'll enjoy your experience there a great deal as long as you appreciate that diving the Sea of Cortez is not like diving the Caribbean.

Ok - so IYHO - who is the best op in the area?

I have been reading up on the Sea of Cortez diving - and can't wait to try it. I think I am discovering that I would much rather see "big stuff" than corals.

Don't worry about Mexico City, easily done. I'am surprised you couldn't find a direct flight out of Phoenix or San Diego that gave you the changeover in the states thought. If that would make you feel better.

We are using Delta frequent flyer miles so we are restricted to certain flights - thus the layover in Mexico City.

I really enjoyed two weeks with Club Cantamar/Baja Diving and Service last summer. So much so that I'll be back for 2 more weeks with them this summer. Very friendly/knowledgable/helpful staff,etc. Incredible sights from the boat and diving.Rooms are clean and good size but no phone or tv in rooms.I give them 5 stars. If you want more specific info just ask. If you go ther, say hi from Steven from Toronto.

I just returned from 10 days at Club Cantamar - such a wonderful time! The diving was really a lot of fun although a bit crowded at times but nothing at all unmanageable. The DM's were extremely competent divers as well. FUN FUN FUN. I think Sept. - Oct is the best time to go. My little solo room was clean, cool and the restaurant has very good food. Shuttles to centro La Paz regularly. Just loved it and can't wait to get back ASAP!!
