I thought their limit was one bag at 44 lb. So the 2 bags at 44 lb each is a good change. My wife and I have flown with them on a number of occasions and never had any problem with 2 bags each, one at the 44 lb limit and the other around 25 lb. I don't think I have ever seen them even look at the scales.

Enjoy.

loudives:
The larger your bag the more they are apt to weight it. The guy in front of me at check in had a full size bag and a medium 1. They put them right on the scale and he payed for extra pounds. When the clerk saw mine were carry on size she never put them on, just tagged them and away they went. So watch the size.

I'll definitely second that. For our last trip, we finally ditched our 3-piece set that had seen better days. It was your typical 3-piece set that was like matryoshka (those Russian nesting dolls) where you start off with a gigantic, 29'' piece and each piece gets smaller and "nests" inside the larger. Problem was that it was always way too easy to over-stuff the largest one and the smallest once was impractical as it would only hold a couple pairs of shoes or 6 bottles of tequila upon return. And as loudives said, that big one always got weighed.... the attendants could see it coming from a mile away! Our new setup consists of a pair of bright red, 22-inch, expandable, wheeled uprights, a pair of Akona roller duffels and a pair of backpacks for carry on. I think replacing our old, single shoulder-strap with a the backpacks was the single best decision because it keeps your hands free and it aint going nowhere. Since I don't have eyes on the back of my head yet, we put a little spring loaded luggage lock on the one pocket of the backpack where we have all our important documents such as passports and US currency to ward off pickpocketers.

We have flown FunJet many times out of DFW, and have never had a problem with the flight or service. The past couple of years we've been using American because we actually got a better deal.

I don't know if Ryan was the contract fight carrier at that time or not, we actually flew on Mexicana or Alegro planes.

Anyway, we SUPER over pack each and every time we travel, keep trying to break that habit, and have never been hit for an extra charge from the charters.

the only time I have flown on Ryan Air for sure was a few years back we went to Hawaii and the flight got delayed for 8 hours because they did not have a plane available! the one we were supposed to fly on was broken down and still in Hawaii.

after they flew a plane from Florida to Dallas, we finally made it to Hawaii at 1:00am, getting to the hotel on the north shore at arround 3:00am, when we were supposed to arrive at 3:00pm the day before. the only compensation given was an $8 food voucher at DFW to make it through the day until the backup plane arrived, luckily we live in the area and didn't have to stay at the airport all day, but a lot of folks did.

Have flown Ryan once or twice from DFW, never a problem. We drive down from OK since the charters are usually the most economical way to get to Coz for us. Have flight booked on Ryan for mid-April, short trip, so will travel with carry-ons only. BTW, you can store your dive gear in Coz for a relatively small fee. This is about the only dive destination I go to so it works well for me, allows the travel to be a little easier.

Would you let us know where we can store gear for a couple weeks in Coz, pls?
My son is there now, and we're going on the 11th. Next time we'll likely go together, but for some reason, they didn't want us with. s'pose cause it's their honeymoon?

I used Javier Polanco at Cozumel Scuba Repair. It was $100 for a year which included annual service on reg & BCD. Shop and storage area was extremely clean & neat. The shops I have been to here could not hold a candle to his work area. His information off his business card reads: email: scubarepair@prodigy.net.mx; address: Call 1ers. Sur; entre 85 y 90 Avs. I would think maybe one of the full service dive shops may be willing to keep the gear for such a short time. Christy or one of the other shop owners may reply.

Flew with them two years ago without any problem. Would fly again.

the rule is 2 checked bags 22 lbs max per bag or 1 bag 44 lbs max. funjet or ryan at DFW has never given me a problem with overweight bags, it was just in cozumel last october they were "enforcing" the 44lbs rule. this time they didnt even have they scales turned on, no problem.
cozumel in general seemed much busier and more crowded than it has compared with the last 4 times i was there, and it was divers..... diver88

OH my GOD. TA said today she has heard Ryan has told people the could not take their overweight bag. So then what leave it at the airport, back out to the car, you better be there 2.5 hours early to take your bag home.

This always gets me. You're going on vacation! If it's stuff you need, and they are being sticklers, belly up and pay the $25...it's not that big of a deal. You're getting deep discounted fares on the charters anyway...

Hmm maybe you did not see where I said the TA said she had heard that Ryan said NO over-sized (weight) bags to some one paying the $25 or not.

I have been out of work for 6 months but feel the need to dive and my wife is needing a time away.
The deep discount is why we can go not looking to spend one of my dives on my baggage.
OH and thanks for piping in with out any helpful info on water temps for an Idea of what wet suit I need and what to see.:(
