Does it mean simply "no named buddy"? Or is it more than that?

For example, I am rarely "buddied up" by a boat captain, and tend to do my own thing when not so aligned. BUT, even while being "alone", I almost always stay near to the main group of divers. Is that "solo diving"?

Asking for a definition of "solo diving"?

Some would say solo diving is when a dive is planned and executed as a one person dive. Others have other definitions. Mine is: "I am diving solo any time another person is not in a position, for whatever reason, to give immediate aid and assistance".

So, I could be in the water with any number of other divers. Regardless of the dive plan if at least one of them can't reach out and hand me a regulator or handle some other task immediately I am solo.
