Anyone else order the GoPro 10?

I ordered the GoPro 10 yesterday and I expect it will be a huge difference from the GP4 that I currently have.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to pick it up yet, I live in Colombia and having it shipped here would have meant another $120 so it’s being sent to my parents’ house back in Virginia and I’ll pick it up when I go home for Christmas.

When it gets closer to Christmas I’ll start asking questions about settings and lights. I never had these with my GP4 because I knew I’d be upgrading.

Based on my research I’ll most likely use a red filter for normal shots and also get a macro lens which I’ll use with a light.

Didn't know the 10 was coming (although it is somewhat expected as this is the time of year GoPro introduces new models). Guess I need to see what is new with this one.

Check out Backscatter.com for their selection of Flip up filters. I think there might even be one with both a red filter & a flip up red filter. Also, keep in mind that GoPro no longer includes an underwater housing and without one, it is only good to 33ft (10m).

Yeah I bought the housing as well as an extra battery. Really sucks that they don’t include that housing with the camera which they did when I got the GP4.

Filters haven't really been necessary since the 7 and they introduced auto whiteballance.
They help at shallow depths with natural light, but not needed when using any sort of artificial light.

That’s interesting because it contradicts some of the videos I’ve seen about GoPro 9s. I’d love not having to buy a filter.

I agree that the red filter is not necessary provided you can correct the white balance in your software. I've had the best results in GoPro 9 with WB set to auto and corrected with PowerDirector. I also use a small video light.

PowerDirector and I'm sure most editing software have a white balance correction feature where you bring a paintbrush or other icon to a white or gray area. I'll do a short clip of my white fins but you could do a slate or other white/gray object. Then you tell it to correct the clip by this white balance correction. You can save that correction to a preset and apply it to any clip on the timeline. If you like you can remove the clip with the white object from your final movie.

Going to disagree, while the auto white balance on newer GoPros is pretty good, and you can get good to acceptable levels of results out of it with a little color grading in post production. Giving it a little bit of a kick with a filter when it needs it can often result in better results.

Here is a 10 on auto with and without a filter.

The filter results are much better and with a little tweaking it will be perfect. While the unfiltered results are workable, but I would lose more quality than if I just used the filter IMO.

Now this video is unfiltered with just color correction, but the water was greenish, so a red filter. I think a green filter might have worked but I didn't carry one with me. Though that has changed, I replaced the "deep" filter as I feel that isn't needed with the GP10 with the green filter. I also ordered a blue filter for my Big Blue drop light, so I can use it, as I feel that the last section would've been improved by a blue filtered Big Blue acting as a fill light since they were somewhat backlit by the sun.
