Hi everyone. I'm from Northern California and have been diving for about 8 years. I have about 50 dives logged (almost all warm water) and love it.

I'm going on my first liveaboard "alone" and have to say, a little nervous. Traveling alone doesn't scare me but not knowing who I'm going to be on a boat with in tight quarters for a week does a little. Anyone else out there going on the Blackbeards cruises Dec 27th - Jan 2?

Hi Jen72, welcome to Scubaboard. I have made a few dives in Monterey myself. I hooked up with a couple divers out of Dive-N-Board in Concord, CA.. Good dives, north CA is a bit cooler than the Caribbean.

Good Luck,
Mark

I have been on two Blackbeard's trips both by myself and both times I have met great people to dive and hang out with. Actually I met my current dive buddy on a Blackbeards trip. Have a great time, I am sooooooo jealous.

Great! Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll check out those forums and hopefully find more New Years dive buddies :)

Jen,

I was looking at a liveaboard trip to Utila on one of the Agressor boats. I have not been on a liveaboard before and wondering how you picked the Black Beard boats. I have seen them advertised but know nothing about them.

I have actually done a couple live aboards and had a lot of fun. I picked Blackbeards this time because I'm diving "single" now and it seems like a fun boat that attracts other single divers because of the accommodations. Plus, it was extremely reasonable for a last minute vacation.

The Aggressor boats look nice but I haven't been on one yet. You may want to look at chartering your own boat especially if you have a few friends that may want to go. That was one of the best vacations I've ever had. We rented a catamaran in the Virgin Islands. It was run by 2 brothers from Texas. One was the chef and one was the captain and they were both Dive Masters. It was just the 4 of us and we sailed around the British Virgin Islands diving where ever we felt like going when we woke up. If you can get a group of 4 or 6 it can be pretty reasonable. We got lucky and worked a deal with a boat broker and got it for $1500 a person which included meals, drinks, diving, everything. Definately something I hope to do again one day.

welcome aboard

Hi Jen,
We traditionally always have a wide variety of single diver's looking to ring in the New Year with us in the Bahamas! No need to worry about finding a dive buddy! Our fantastic crew also always look forward to this week and port night in Bimini is a blast with live band. What better way to ring in 2009 with some awesome diving. See you soon!

Hi Jen -

I'm going on my first liveaboard by myself for Thanksgiving and have only heard great stuff from other lone travelers on Blackbeards. I'm looking forward to meeting 21 "new friends!"

11 days and counting ... :D
