I'm trying to set up a dive day while in Cabo and my buddy wants to schedule with Manta SCUBA Diving

They go to Cabo Pulmo and Gordo Banks which is where we want to go but it is not always possible in May because of the conditions. We'll be there the weekend of 5/17.

Any thoughts?

Well your right about Cabo Pulmo Its going to be a bit early in the season.Best bet would be to Dive Peligan Rock, Neptunes Finger Or The three Walls near The Point Of Cabo San Lucas.
Half Day trips start at 9.00am "thank God" and return at 2.00pm.
I like the crew and location of Baja Dive they are located in the Tesoro Resort right on the Marina in Down Town Cabo.Nice Boats new gear and Instructors lead all tours.
I have Dove with all the shops in Cabo. But I like getting the same great service every time I Dive so I will continue to use them.

My GF and I have dove with Manta many times in Cabo. We dove many of the sites previously listed. Was a little cold for my GF's taste, but she loved the dive at the point with the huge playful sea lions. Great shop with great service and a knowledgeable staff. One of the divers let their u/w pns camera float up to the service and the DM went and retrieved it for them. Pretty good service if you ask me. Not a lot of DM's would of made that extra effort. (I hope they tipped him well!!) However you've got to trek your gear down to the beach and board the boat from the shore. You can't go wrong with this dive op.

Thanks for the info. I usually plan the dives and the operator, but this trip my friend is doing the leg work. I'm trying to stay hands off (hard for a first-born) and let him make the decisions.

Totally understand. I'm the same way. You'll have a great time with Kiki and the staff from Manta. Plus, Lots to do right there on Medano Beach. The "Office" restaurant gets pretty crazy on most evenings. If your into that type of thing.

I did my AOW with Manta and loved it. Great people. It's not a fancy shop. But the equipment is fine and the people first rate.

I just got back from Cabo Saturday. As stated it's too early for anything but local dives at Pelican Rock/Sand falls and Mira Wall. My wife and I also did a snorkel at Santa Maria Cove which was fairly warm and full of fish.
I dove with Lands End Divers. They are a small op with a small boat (6-8 divers max) I was alone so the dives were just Eric the DM and myself. All went well and I enjoyed the dives. The water temps were 64-70*F I layered a 2mm shorty and a 3mm full and was a bit chilly at Mira Wall but it was fine for Pelican Rock. A 7mm would probably be better at this time of year.
