Anyone dive lake Powell in Arizona?

I will be on a house boat trip for ten days at Lake Powell at the end July. I plan on bringing my dive gear. I was told that there is a Dive shop in Page that I plan on visiting befoer getting on the boat. I was wondering if anyone here has done any diving there. If so, I would love some recomendations on sights, do's and don'ts, or anything else about diving Lake Powell.

Sound like fun. Lake Powell is a huge lake. They say you could spend a lifetime exploring all the coves.

It is on my list of dive sites in the US. My husband used to live in Page as Powell was filling. Let us know how it was diving there.

You might want to post your question to the Arizona SCUBA sub-forum down there in Dive Clubs and Regional Travel, where there are a number of people who enjoy lake diving.

I would pay special attention to people who have been diving (and boating) there *recently* - because the long drought on the Colorado has reduced the water level by about half, so a lot of things may have changed in the last few years.

We dove Lake Canyon there in August of 2002. Lake Powell is at an altitude of 3700 feet so make sure you know how to properly execute an altitude dive because you'll have to plan it at the 4,000 foot level according to my table. The canyon we were diving in was shallow and murky as we were at the end of it to avoid boat traffic, make sure you take along a dive flag. Our max depth at that spot was only 40 feet and the water was 80 degrees though I'm sure this varies in the deeper parts of the lake.

Like Stirling said, you need to do some research on water levels, it was down over 40 feet in the channel where we dove and the drought is continuing. There were land sites you couldn't get to then unless you walked up the channels.
