The wife and I are getting the itch to get in the water somewhere soon. I've seen enough of the crater to last me a lifetime. This time of year do you have to do Blue Lake on a weekday for it to be decent?

It's still hit and miss on weekdays (Friday) since there are still a few Instructors doing Friday Saturday classes out there. Most OW classes tend to go out the third and fourth weekend of the month. If there are groups there you can still find descent vis if you get away from the entrance area and platforms. Head east.

Ditto Rogue's note... get away from the OW areas and head East and the vis isn't too bad.. can be 10 - 15 ft. I was there two weekends ago and had a good dive.
It's a decent place to practice skills like navigation... my philosophy is any dive is a good dive and if you can dive confidently in places like Blue Lake then you're cruising in true blue water.

I dove Deer Creek last weekend and had fun. Much colder (55 degrees) and vis was only 10 ft or so and not much to see... but its fun to explore. This sat we are diving the beach closest to the dam to check it out and see if there is some underwater relief, maybe a small wall or cliff. We'll let ya know.

Oops sorry, wrong hole.

Hey DandyDon I met the owners of the LDS there in Amarillo a couple weeks ago when they were up here. Nice folks. They were talking about bringing a group up here instead of going to the Blue Hole.

Blue lake is a fun dive. I am looking forward to some of the hot spring diving near Park city this winter when is too cold elsewhere.
