I came across these:
Mini STA.jpg

Are they stable enough for use with Al 80's?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. Just make sure you clock them right.

Cut and bent these in a vice then welded some allthread to the other side
and then come the washers and the wingnuts after the wing and the plate

I've used them and keep a pair for travel, work great. I forget what they are actually for, some kind of stabilizers for old school doubles or independent doubles.

So they were not originally intended for single tanks?

Another yes vote. I've used them on an ultralight travel BP/W with single cylinder, and they are stable.
Mine are identical to the ones in the OP photo, but unpainted stainless steel.

I also use a second alternate wing that has cam band slots, in which case I do not use the STAs, just the cam bands alone.
That's stable too.

No, they are a stabilizer for doubles to keep them from moving around. I'm guessing bands got better and their not needed on modern sets. I got mine for single tank travel 10 years ago. Never actually seen them used on doubles
