I'm looking for help on identifing and getting info about a tank I got as part of a (used equipment) package deal.

The tank is aluminum, and shorter than an Al80, maybe a 72.
The markings read:
CTC/DOT-3AL 3000-J 92209
WK 5A87

Somebody told me that it was something known as a J tank, That a little while back some manufacturer was trying to make a shorter tank but they turned to be bad floaters, nobody liked them and they were discontinued.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've heard of J valves but never a J tank, I think the "J" is confusing someone. I HAVE heard of floaters and in fact used to own one.

It's a Walter Kiddee cylinder. Do you see any numbers starting with "SP" or "E" on the cylinder?

Walter Kiddee only made 6351 alloy cylinders.

Thanks Roak

But No, the tank doesn't have any other numbers on it then the ones I listed.

Do those numbers or their abscence tell you anything?

The numbers indicate a 1987 Walter Kidde tank. Kidde discontinued their SCUBA tanks in 1988. They have since been identified in several tank explosions. Make sure the tank is visualed using the eddy current tester (visual +).
