I overheard some guy I work with talking to some other guy and he claimed he had logged 8000 dives. I started doing the math in my head, even if he logged 80 dives a year it would take him 100 years! If he did 150 dives a year it would take him a little over 53 years! He's only 45 years old max! It just seemed outrageous to me. I also checked he is not on the PlatinumPro5000 list either. I was just wondering if anyone on this board really had that many dives and peoples thoughts on this subject.

I think you're crazy to do the math in your head. You should set up an Excel spreadsheet to spit out all the dives-per-year calculations. It might be pretty interesting. You could refine it to see how many years it would take if he took Mondays off, for example.

I'm not sure if that was sarcasm or not! haha. I'm not going to waste that much time on it. I was just curious! :14:

i know a diver who logged 5 dives in the time it took me to do my dry certification 45 min. i think he was in a rush to technically log as many dives as possible to qualify for rescue diving coarse, 10 min under 5 min topside

I think it would be easy for someone to do if working a resort or liveaboard.

4 dives per day, 5 days per week, 50 weeks is 1000 dives per year.

Theoretically yes it is possible. Is there anyone on this board that has that many though?

I would think there are more than a few people working in the dive industry who have done 8000 dives. What I would like to know is - has anyone done 8000 RECREATIONAL dives? :blinking:

Yes, I think it is possible.
I would think that Aquarena Springs Employees from the 60's, 70's, and 80's could prove that many with their pay stubs. They typically did 4-6 shows a day, 6 days a week for their entire college career. I am aware of an instructor with 10,000. His career started in the 50's.

So 10000 dives is 175 dives a year for 57 years. We will say the guy I'm talking about does that many for 35 years (assuming he started diving when he was 10. Thats still only 6125 dives. Plus this guy is an instructor in his spare time, his job isn't diving related at all.
