I ventured out this AM to Nubble. Was curious what Cape conditions would have been like.

Not as good vis as my dive on Wed but divable. Still better than a mo. ago with the Alge bloom thing. Water's still brisk. I was getting 39-42 detrees.

My bottom time was 48 min
Max dept 68 fsw

Starting to see some large bugs and had sighted a couple cool northern red anenomes.

Anxious to get out again. Will be heading to Cape Cod to cottage memorial day. If anyone down there with their gear, ping me. I'll be able to get out Sun PM and Monday. Need to do some cleanup down there.

A friend of mine dove Front Beach this morning (Saturday, the 16th). Despite the recent south winds and a mild east wind today coming right into the beach, he said the vis was about 25'! That really surprised me.

He only saw one lobster, a short, a two flounder, both short.

Water temp was 50F, he said. (In less than 25' of water.)

The sea breeze made the surface conditions cool and damp, only getting up to 55F.

At least those surface conditions made me feel a little better about not going.... Gotta get the winter out of my system.... :shakehead:

I made it out today to Folly Cove. Saw a decent amount of wildlife: two lobster, a skate, decent sized horseshoe crab and a flounder. The surface weather was misty and around 55F. Visibility was probably around 15-20ft and the recorded temperature was around 39-40F.

How deep did you go? That's a significant temperature difference from what Dave's friend reports on Front Beach.

I dove folly on friday, below the thermocline (which FELT like about 25') I had 41 deg.
max depth of 50'
On the surface it was 57 deg.
Vis was great, 30'+ down to about 35' then it degraded to 15'

I dove with a friend yesterday, 5/17 off of Ellisville Harbor (South Plymouth Mass) Water temp at surface was 49, and bottom was 40-43. Two dives max depth was 21 feet. I went home with 3 bugs, he went home with two. We both saw many shorts. 3 more weeks or so and I'm sure the bugs will be in full force. Next weekend we are heading over to P-town for a few drift dives. I'll post back on those results. Good luck to all and be safe.

Thanks for the report. I'll be down at the Cape this weekend. I have a good buddy with a beach house near Ellisville harbor. (He's off Center Hill road.) I'll be diving from his house Fri AM. Have always wanted to do drift dives in in P-Town. Would be soo cooll.
