Aloha Steve!

Sorry, wrong Island - But I'm sure the Maui Ohana will be here soon

Where will you be staying? do you already have tanks lined up?

Im staying in Kihei, Maalaea surf specifically.

I was just planning on renting tanks from Maui Dive shop or something. You have a better idea? If at all possible i would like to avoid using the yoke 80's that they rent. Before I need to remember to pack my din - yoke adapter! :-(

You'll be hard-pressed to find any DIN valves here that are in rental stock. Tim (kidspot on here) may have an idea on where to find them, but I haven't seen them around.

So, without your Din-to-yoke adapter, you'll be pretty much stuck. :(

Personally, unless you need the convenience of picking up tanks in any direction, I'd avoid MDS for that -- it's the only place I've had sour air, and it's the only place I've heard of people getting any sort of not-so-great air in the past couple years.

But, your mileage may vary. :)

O really, i dont like hearing that. Last time i was there i bought a 10 tank punch card and the guy was nice enough not to punch it, he told me to save it for another time. So i have 10 left! I didnt have a problem last year with any bad air but hey it only takes once :-( The dive shop i get my air at has a 5 filter system (various water and air filters) and they/ I give myself excelent fills! Its going to be a heck of alot different diving a steel 80 at 3200 or 3500 (if im lucky) psi tank when im used to my 100HP filled to 4000. On an average dive no more than 80ft my 100 usually lasts me about an hour, less if we are at certian dive sites. I would guess my air consumption will be much better in the warm waters of maui :) maybe it will even out!

well, don't count on a steel 80 for starters... most of the shops rent aluminium tanks around here.

Some shops (like Maui Dreams) do have AL100's for rent in limited quantities.

Keep in mind that a tank's actual contents depend on it being filled to working pressure -- i.e. an HP100 filled to the working pressure of 4000psi will contain the same amount of breathing gas as an AL100 filled to the working pressure of 3000psi.

Maui Dreams uses a 3-filter system that is a step beyond what is needed... something that most shops here don't do. They can also fill Nitrox to whatever blend you want, without using PP (they have "The Stick").

Rather than "warm water" it'll likely be the shallow depths of the shore dive sites here that makes a tank last longer... but if you want to compare, download your Vyper and punch in your starting & ending PSI into the SDM. It'll tell you your SAC that you can compare around here -- I run anywhere from a 0.4 to a 0.65, depending on stressors, and get 45 minutes to an hour and forty-five on an AL80 at our shore dive sites.

I guess if Maui Dreams doesn't carry Din valve tanks they don't exist on Maui :)

Go see B&B, they'll give you some.
