Hello

Anyone care to comment on the Diverite Harness Weight?

I bought my first bp/w (Oxycheq Mach 5 30# wing + plate), and I need to add approximately 4 to 6 lbs. to my 5 lbs backplate. My objective is to avoid using weight pockets.

Prior to buying the BP, I was diving with a Seaquest Balance BC and using 14 lbs of lead while wearing a 7mm full suit without a hood. I think I could have gotten away using 12lbs in the BC, but I have never attempted to do so. I know for a fact I couldn't sink using only 8 lbs. At that time I weigh 175 lbs and was using a Steel XP100 tank.

I now weigh 165 but should swing back to 170 lbs soon. Do you think I could get by with little as 9 to 11 lbs to sink using my bp/w setup?

My options are to use either the harness weight or an Oxcheq's sausage weight pocket. The only problem with the sausage pocket is that when I filled it to the max (4 lbs), it will not sit flat in the center channel of the backplate. Instead, it bulges out slight over the plate, so it's probably not as comfortable as having the plate resting flat against my back. However, I'm willing to try it out

Any other alternative on adding lead without resorting to weight pockets?

Thanks in advance.

I use 2 of the DR 2 pounders on my Transpac harness and 2 five pound weights in the weight pouches for a total of 14 when using a 3mil and AL80.

I put the 2 pounders on the harness to help with trim, not to avoid a weight belt since I don't need a weight belt anyway.

They have a pound on each end spreading the weight out and they accomplish task perfectly. I like them.

why don't you just use XS Scuba weight pockets and put them on your cam band? you can put one on each band, just on opposite sides. they will easily hold the 4-6lb you want.

i reread your post, curious, why are you trying to avoid weight pockets?

You can put regular weights directly onto the camstraps. Can put weights directly on to the waistbelt.(That will be semi-ditchable)
Could probably drill a hole in a weight and bolt it onto the backplate.
Get a heavy STA

Lots of options. I never saw the point in buying weight pockets.

I wear 4 lbs on a weight belt to ditch if needed and thread hard weights onto the camband for any additional weight that I need. I have about 5-6 lbs as backplate with a 2 lb STA so I don't have a whole lot of additional weight to begin with.

I should have been more clear. What I meant was I want to avoid weight pockets that connects at the waist.

Oh ok. My vote would be throw the weights on your cam band. Don't even buy the weight pockets as ian33 suggested. It does'nt cost any extra to do this so you can try it and see if you like it. :D
