Any Shops in La Jolla to show me some sights

I will be in San Diego in Early November. Several years ago around this time of year, I rented a kayak and paddled around La Jolla and saw many dozens of Leopard Sharks. I'd like to see some while diving, and I've heard good things about La Jolla Cove (although I hear too that the viz varies between respectable and lousy and you have to hit it on a good day). I will be by myself and am guessing that maybe it the only trips anyone leads are boat trips, but I'd rather not dive in a new area solo obviously, so am just thinking about my options. Nonetheless, I was wondering if anyone can steer me towards a good local dive shop.

I have used OEX for guided shore dives in the past and am very pleased with them (esp DM Karma). They are the closest dive shop to La Jolla shores and haul your gear down to the beach from there.

You probably have more luck seeing leopard sharks while snorkeling rathen than diving. I have only seen them in the shallow waters while snorkeling back to the beach. They seem rather shy and any bubbles will scare them away whereas snorkeling you can get within 2-3 feet if you're lucky.

There are a number of dive shops that will do local dives with you... some being The Sports Chalet or Ocean Enterprise ... however, if your looking at saving a few bucks and looking for a dive buddy... check out these two options..

The San Diego Dive club or Dive Bums... both have allot of members that are always willing to go diving and show a non-local the ropes.

Just planning a trip to Hawaii the 1st week of Nov, other then that I am ALWAYS willing to do a dive.

Missy, are you in San Diego as well??
