Hey all, just wondering if any Navy SEALs frequent the site and if you dive recreatoinally. I work with a Navy SEAL from the Vietnam Wa rand he doesn't rec dive anymore. I was just wondering if anyone else gave up diving after service.

Thanks to all who have served our country. You are my hero. I respect you beyond what words will allow.

I personally am not a SEAL, but I know that in BUD/S phase 2 (Dive phase) the SEALS are now given their PADI Instructor qualification (I think its PADI) so they have something they can use easily when they get out. Combat diving is SOOOO Much different than rec diving that im sure alot of guys wouldnt enjoy it as much as what they did on operations.. I could be wrong though...

hmmmm.....

Why would they do that?

I hate to think my tax dollars are used to pay a Navy Seal to teach some one to do fin pivots.

The reason the government started doing that was that the seals do an INCREDIBLE amount of dive training (approximately 2-3 months of DEDICATED dive training 5 days a week).. With all of this training they did not attain ANY kind of civilian certification... This way they have something they can do when they get out of the service.... In my opinion its a great idea... I know how it is being in the military.. its very nice when they do something like that for us...

I don't have a problem with it. One small token for insuring our freedom.

:frown: The # 3 posting is the reason that I keep my service and my cert. to myself

I agree with you. That's just ridiculous.

Being a military diver, SEAL or otherwise does in no way qualify you as an instructor so I can't see the military or PADI doing that.

Is there some documentations about this. I'm against it.

I know the SEAL that I work with DOES NOT have an instructor card. He was in active duty during the Vietnam War. So if this is true, it is something new(er).
