Sometimes the second time around may be better, then again - can you say Atlanta Flames/Atlanta Thrashers. What is the NHL doing back in the hockey hotbed of Atlanta?

As well as the Thrashers are doing this year, their attendance is still dropping. Maybe the fine people of Atlanta have realized their old lady hasn't learned any new tricks to hold their interest.

On another note...

Thank you Chris Simon, for giving the media another reason to dogpile on hockey. Every time some knuckle walker loses his mind in an NHL game, the media dogpiles on the NHL with stories about the level of violence in the game.

Will they ever learn?? :25:

Indefinite suspension for Simon announced today on nhl.com

So, how long is indefinite? With the way the NHL seems to handle it I suspect that he will be back before the end of the season.

Good Guestion. If your going to fight that s one thing but to do what Simon did is 100% WRONG.

He will have his hearing tomorrow and it will be determined then. I agree with Barry Melrose -- it should be 40 games....whether it's the last 15 games of the regular season and 25 playoff games, or the first 25 games of next season. I say he's through for this season. There is NO excuse for what he did.

Apparently, Nassau County's Assistant District Attorney may be filing criminal charges against Simon, as well. A league suspension may be the least of his worries. :shakehead

Watch for this, Simon wont make the meeting today claiming he cant fly due to a concussion he suffered as he was sent into the boards. If he does make the meeting he will still claim it was the hit he took that caused him to momentarily lose his sanity.
This guys act has worn thin. Who would be disappointed if he never played again?

I've always said that in cases such as Simon's, the suspension starts once the injured player returns from his injury. In this case, as Hollweg appears to be in the lineup tonight, the suspension starts immediately. In the case of Bertuzzi's mauling of Moore, he's still be waiting to start his 30 game suspension. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=199402&hubname=nhl
I think having someone of Bertuzzi's calibre, in the prime of their career, sitting home being a fan or playing in Europe for pennies on the dollar compared to what they'd make in the NHL, would be a major deterrant to prevent this from happening again.

PS I hope Steve Moore wins his civil suit against Bertuzzi. It would serve as a wake up call to players that their actions on the ice CAN hurt them monetarily, and that doesn't mean in their next contract. Bertuzzi's statement about the Moore incident "I'm so far behind that that it isn't an issue anymore" is sickening, and says a lot about him as a person.

This is Simon's sixth suspension in the NHL. It had better be a long one. The story about him not being able to travel because of a possible concussion should have no bearing. I am sure he can still hear, and someone can use a phone.

If the NHL wants to see him in person, then why not wait until he is fit to fly. After that point in time he can start the real suspension. I would be that he would be healthy very soon.

The Westchester Journal is reporting that the incident is being reviewed by the Nassau County District Attorney's office to determine if a criminal prosecution should follow.

This better not be true, or the league will look like it condones what Simon did. I got this from the TSN.ca website, and saw it reported on ESPN's sportsticker while watching a basketball game as well.
"TSN.ca posted a story stating that Simon had been suspended for 15 regular season games and seven playoff games"
