Kovalev can be pretty frustrating to watch. Reminds me of watching Sergei Fedorov back in his Detroit days. So many Wings fans would just get frustrated because Sergei didn't score a goal every game. But the thing was, when you looked at his stats and particularly playoff stats, the results really were there. In the same vein, Kovalev is a good guy to have come playoff time.

Mike Modano has been like that in the past for the Stars.

Kovelev's saving grace is his playoff performances. He already has an assist tonight against the LAFFS. Hopefully with the Habs predicament, he ( and the rest of the team) realizes that every game from now on is a playoff game and starts to show what he can do.
I have a suspicion that Gainey has something up his sleeve, and is going to use the pick he got yesterday to make a bigger trade. Guess we'll know by 3pm tomorrow.

Detroit Play s Hawks here Tuesday night let s see what happend s.Can the Hawks Pull it off and Win??. Still dont know what s up with any trades from the Hawks time is running out .

Anaheim 3, San Jose 2

It's getting interesting in the Pacific Division... :D

I like the move the Wings made, sending Jason Williams to Chicago and getting Kyle Calder. At least we have a little bit of grit now, but I have to admit I'm a bit happier about sending Williams off than I am getting Calder.

As for Samsonov, he's really not as bad as he's being made out to be. Every game I've watched him play, he's hustled

Hey! That's what I said for the last two years Samsonov was in Boston, and I was wearing my "Samsonov Apologist" hat. His last two years in Boston were aggravating. He would take the puck in, waterbug around, not shoot, not pass, and the cough up the puck. Don't get me started on how slow he was to return from injuries...

I do get a chuckle seeing him play for the Habs, and continuing his waterbug act. He has a mind numbing 9 goals/16 assists in 60 games, for a price of 3.5 million a year. That's why he found himself on the waiver wire, and was not picked up. Makes him tough to keep on your roster, and tough to trade for something of value.

It was very strange cheering for the Habs against the Toronto Makebeliefs last night. Strange times when the hated Habs help keep the Bruins slim playoff hopes alive.

Cheering for the Habs...there's hope for you yet...lol :luxhello: :yelclap: :rofl3: :D ;)
Bruins made a great trade today, picking up Aaron Ward. The Bruins loosening the purse strings and paying players...the miracles never cease.
It's going to take a while before I can keep track of who's playing where after the flurry of trades this week. I'm a little surprised the Habs didn't go after a scorer like Ryan Smyth, considering what the Islanders gave for him. I'm sure the Habs could've matched or beat the offer they accepted.
Ah, well....Gainey told them last week not to be looking for a savior via a trade. But, with them picking up Leighton off waivers from Philly, I'm betting Aesbeisher is gone in the offseason, and Halak backs up Huet next year. Leighton gives them another goalie in Hamilton til Price is ready to move up.

I've been watching TSN's feed all day, and it seems that Kevin Lowe did not even shop Smyth. Basically , negotiations broke down and then he picked a team and traded. A number of GMs called TSN and were shocked that he was available.

By the way, NYI gave up their 2003 and 2005 1st round picks plus this coming draft's 1st round. Put that in the Habs' perspective and that would be Kostitsyn, Price and one of this year's picks. And the Isles don't need Price as they have DiPietro for 14 years.

But onto my team...I'm very happy about Bertuzzi, not so much because he's Bertuzzi, but because the Wings gave up very little to get him. There's not much downside. If Bertuzzi rocks and resigns, then we give up a 1st rounder. If he's a bust, it's a very low pick and a prospect.

Yeah, I've been switching from website to website all day too. The reason I thought the Habs could have offered more for Smyth, was they have 3 1st round picks (with the pick for Rivet), 2 2nd round and a few 3rd this year, plus a lot of players they could have shopped also, like Perezhogen, Milroy, both Kostisyns, Plekanec, Grabowski, Chipchura, Locke etc. The Habs cupboards are pretty deep, with a lot of good players with plenty of upside, but I'm not sure any of them will be the sniper that Smyth is, plus he brings grit, size and leadership, all things the Habs could have used. I know that Gainey doesn't want to sell the future for a player today, but I believe you need a mix of leadership and youth, so he could have used some of that youth to bring in a vet like Smyth. As for Dipietro...if they had gotten Price in the deal, he would have made Dipietro a backup within 5 years. I think he's going to be the real deal.
As for Bertuzzi, I'm surprised at the deal, as I think the Wings stole him. As you're a Wings fan, congrats on not only that great pick up, but a great trade deadline overall.

Todd Bertuzzi is a hard-nosed player....but I still think he's a thug. It's easy to forgive, but I don't EVER forget. :shakehead
