Hey, don't count the Habs out just yet. They finally got a win last night. You just can't count out a team with Gainey and Carbonneau at the helm.
Meanwhile, how about that Henrik Zetterberg?
Oh, I haven't counted them out yet, but I'm not getting my hopes up either. This Habs team actually reminds me a lot of the '92 Habs. Then they had a team with a lot of youngsters such as John LeClair, Gilbert Dionne, Benoit Brunet, Patrice Brisebois, etc, leadership and grit from players such as Mike Keane, Shayne Corson, Brent Gilchrist and Kirk Muller, great defense with Chelios, Mathieu Schneider, Desjardins, Lyle Odelein and JJ Dagnois, and awesome goaltending from HOFer Patrick Roy. The one thing they were missing were snipers. In the offseason before '93, they went out and signed Brian Bellows and Vinnie Damphousse, and later traded Chelios for Denis Savard. The rest you might say was history, as the Habs beat Wayne Gretzky's LA Kings for the Cup in '93.
This team is very much the same as '92, and the current Habs have a farm team full of prospects, but none of them are going to light up the league as a top notch goal scorer. They need to bring up Yan Danis, and tell Halak and Danis that the next 20 games decides who backs up Huet next year. Now package a few of the prospects with Abby or Kovelev, give up some high draft picks, and trade for some goal scorers. Someone like Todd Bertuzzi (if he can get healthy), Richards or Lacavilleir from Tampa, or someone in that mold.
But, til then, in Bob we trust!
