If Milo teaches at Beach City, there will be some kind of activities for new divers.

Sorry about the Hollywood recommendation, if it's out of range. I'm not from Southern California, so I don't really understand the geography, but I know some of the shops.

Beach Cities Scuba now has 5 locations in Orange County the closest 2 to Anaheim are probably Cypress and Huntington Beach. I am not too sure if Milo is still working for them or not. But they have some good instructors and have lots of boats chartered and have classes starting all the time, They also now own Laguna Sea Sports so they own the shop right up the street from Shaw's Cove which is basically the open water classroom of Orange County. If you check them out go into the Huntington beach shop on Brookhurst and ask for Kris, he has been a dive professional for over 20 years and is very knowledgeable and also does all the scheduling of their classes.

Heck, *I* don't live in CA and I go to Hollywoodivers!! :D

My LDS is New England Divers, (no it isn't in New England) It is in Long Beach just off the 405 at by the LGB airport. I don't have any personal in water experience with their instructors but knowing them for over a year I would not hesitate to recommend them. Mike, the owner, is a great guy and will take good care of you.

Second the recommendation for milo, but someone told me he's not at beach cities anymore - anyone got a line on that?

OP, what did you not like about PW? I have been to scuba world - and was not horribly impressed, but I am doing my AOW with Pac Wilderness this next weekend. I will let you know my impressions after I finish the class, but in general I have had good experiences with sales and service there. Hopefully training will be the same good quality.

There are plenty of good OW instructors in this area. I wouldn't agonize over the decision. Find a shop convenient to your location with classes that fit your schedule. Shops for the most part don't make money on OW so they aren't going to keep instructors that suck or don't encourage you to keep diving and become a regular customer.

When someone is looking for recommendations telling them nothing is useless advice.

I 5th Hollywood divers. There's only a couple of dive shops I trust for instruction and Hollywood divers is at the top of the list. Good luck with your search!

I got certified at Pacific Wilderness. It was a great experience, I would recommend them.

If you are still checking this thread, I reccomend Sea Ventures in Fullerton. It's close to you and the classes are very flexable. 714 871-2218

If you go to Beach Cities, ask for Greg.
