I had the Gopro hero black 7 which I sold, videos while diving were okeish, reasonable. I also had the Flip with multiple different colors, sorry but was kindda disappointing, unless I didn't set the Gopro correctly for when using the Flip. In the end I lost the Flip while jumping from the boat to the water, and I doubt I will buy a new Flip after that.
So my question is, is the 13 a big improvement to the 7 or it will be more or less the same quality of footage UW ?
My situation, except I still have the 7. It meets my needs except GoPro no longer support the Quik software for models without WiFi/Bluetooth, which I found really handy for making clips small enough to send/post. I'm trying to decide whether to keep my 7 with all the accessories, to upgrade to a 13 (and buy a bunch of non-compatible new accessories) or switch to a different platform (as GoPro irritated me with their force obsolescence of the 7).

I have the black 7 still. Ordering a 13 now. I can tell you there have been many upgrades from 7 to 13. Including a major battery length upgrade from 12 to 13 and as others have said from 10 to 11. Even the 9 is an upgrade from 7. If you go by specs. Long story short and ive basically said nothing, go for it.

Word of warning, there have been so many changes that the underwater housing from the 7 will not fit. The battery charger for the 7 wont charge batteries from the 13 etc. Basically you need all new gear.

By the way im going with a cool newish lens for it also. The backscatter gopro Sharp Wide Lens Pro Package. on sale for about $275 now. from videos etc it really enhances the view and also allows you to get much closer to your subjects. Extremely close so it is an upgrade worth having for a GoPro in my book. It also helps increase light so there are multiple reasons to get that lens package.

best of luck

Bro, its been almost 7 years since the GoPro 7 was released. Time to let go my man 😁 , edit: oops only 6 yrs and a month but everything changes. I doubt its planned obsolescence at all. There are costs to keeping old tech that they just dont think is worth it when most have already moved on.
