What album was "Brown eyed women and red grendine" on?

Wasn't on any studio album.

It's on Europe '72, What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been and
Dick's Pick's, vol. 5

First performance: August 23, 1971 at the Auditorium Theater, Chicago. It appeared in the first set, between "Beat It On Down the Line" and "Me and My Uncle." It's was a regular in the repertoire after that.

I did not know Jerry was a diver. It does not suprise me though. If you guys can find a copy of Cornell University 77 I think you would really like it. Both sets are truly amazing.

That was a great show. If anyone wants a copy let me know and I'll get you a cd.

When you walk into Jacks in Kona there is a nice picture of Jerry on the right hand side wall. He loved diving.

I asked a few of the instructors there how Jerry's diving was. They said for someone so overweight and generally out of shape that he was suprisingly good on his air consumption.

There's a few quotes in Garcia: An American Life , where he talks about what diving did for him. I'll see if I can dig them up.

Meanwhile here's Jerry in Hawaii.

I saw the Dead @ The Auditorium Theater in Chicago. But, I know it was not 1971. They must have came back and played again between 1975 and 1979.
Anyway, that was a great place to see them. The acoustics at the Auditorium are close to perfect.
I have bought a few of Jerry's Men's Ties for my boys, and they really like them.
( My oldest wore his to senior prom)

Here's a few quotes from Garcia on diving. These come from Garcia: An American Life by Blair Jackson

*****************

" It takes up some of the space that drugs left, insofar as it's like going to a different world"

"You're in a different place. It's very sensual. There's lots of new information there, a lot of levels, a lot of things to think about and physically it's good for you. But it satisfies that thing of going to space. You're in a place where there's no gravity, you're surrounded by a whole raft of new life-forms, many of which are interactive. You can't go into the forest and pet raccoons, but you can go into the water and pet eels and octopuses and things. I do things I would never have believed I was capable of doing diving. I really love it; it's an amazing experience"

I'ts better than taking drugs. It's better than psychadelics. It's a living theatre of psychedelia, just incredibly beautiful"
