Hi guys

So I had flu & inflammation. Now recovered. But the antibiotic that the doctor gave me still available. Is it safe to go diving while taking antibiotic especially ERYSON (ERYTHROMYCIN BASE 250 mg)

Thanks a lot

Andy

Hi Andy,

Given that an adequate topside trial of erythromycin results in no problematic side effects, a normal course of this drug should pose no risk for scuba.

It is important that the diver with influenza or a related disease have recovered completely before returning to scuba. The respiratory and congestive effects of such conditions have obvious implications for safe diving.

Divers taking this medication will want to stay very well hydrated. Also, as it can cause photosensitivity of the skin it is best to avoid potentially damaging exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays.

This is educational only and does not constitute or imply a doctor-patient relationship. It is not medical advice to you or any other individual and should not be construed as such.

Helpful?

This stuff is tough on your stomach. If you didn't throw up the last time you're out on the boat, you might now.

Thanks Doc,

Anyway I did went diving for one day instead of 3 days as plan and was consuming the antibiotic. It made me thirsty always and I kept my self hydrated. I came out safe.

Thanks fisherdvm, luckily I didn't throw up...:)

And guys....Please don't follow my way or try this with your own risk.

Dive Safe

Andy
