Spoon:
id like to get my hands on whoever was leading or organised that dive group. seeing stuff like this really pissesme off, id like to help anyway i can. count me in as a volunteer

I agree Spoon. The dive shops in the area have to become pro-active in cases like these. It might be a good idea to post pictures of this vandalism in the local shops to let everyone who dives there know about it. I'm sure the outrage from customers would promote a mood of intolerance for disgusting vandalism like this. I suspect that a lot might not seen it.

What the heck is going on there??? It seems like this is a recurring event in that area. Posting these acts of vandalism is a good start for awareness....better to leave the offender in Davy Jone's Locker!

"Venus Muroami" is what is inscribed on the coral.

I am against posting it in resorts. It will probably just give other people ideas. What should be done is strict enforcement of dive ethics. If your a divemaster and you witness that kind of act, you reprimand even at the risk of losing the diver as a customer.

Sorry, disagree here.

What you do, and I've seen it done in PG is: -

a) you explain that it will not be tolerated in the briefing
b) if someone does it, they are banned from diving with you again and their name and cert nos. are circulated among the local dive outlets.

Most outlets will (and should) refuse to allow someone banned elsewhere for a valid reason to dive with them.

Any reasonable person will approve of refusing to give a vandal the chance to damage beauty. It should be no different underwater.

I just don't get it...what is the benefit of writing your name or what ever on a coral head? Anyone that was certified should know better...

Hope they catch who ever did this...

What is [FONT=&quot]appalling is that the diveguide/master may have turned a blind eye for fear of losing a paying customer.

Since I haven't dived in that location before, are there a lot of divers there who are allowed to dive unguided in that area?

But I'm sure that everyone would agree that if we saw this type of behaviour, the person responsible would receive an earful from any of us.

Larry,
Do they have vandalized coral there as well?

If I see a DM berate a customer for vandalizing (the way we've twice seen here over the last few months), I'll give him a nice big tip.
