I'm a Fish!
I went into town today and saw an ID 10 T diving solo from the city beach. I don’t have a clue how long he was down but he was shivering and could barely talk.

So I ask if he’s ok and he said he was but was just cold. I asked if his dry, yes dry suit leaked and he said he didn’t think so but the suit wasn’t working.

Um, it seems to be a bit on the small side. Nope, I,I,I, had it custom made. OK, how long ago? I,I,I just got it. What do you have on for undies? My swim suit.

I’m ready to just up and drown this guy now and get it over with to save the team a callout. He went and mail ordered a NO NAME dry suit on line and sized it like a wet suit. Then as he was playing contortionist to get out of the suit I noticed that there was no inflator hose on his regulator. The suit had inflator and exhaust valves but I’m sure this ID 10 T didn’t have a clue what they were for.:shakehead:

Where do these guys come from and where is Alan Funt when you need him?

It's going to be one of those years Rick. ;)

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

You shouldn't dish on people with limited experience. He obviously still has a bit to learn, and a bit of help with this wouldn't go astray.

I agree, a little compassion with this guy might have really made a difference in his diving future. I hope that you won't be called out to look for this poor guy in the future because he made a mistake while hypothermic.

Gary.... so did you have the time to offer him any assistance or constructive comments?

What is with it with the people here who come on to post just to bag out other divers?

Yea this guy sounds like he had no idea but did you offer him advice? He was diving by himself so he isn't going to impact on you at all so why come here and post stuff like that without talking about how you tried to help him out? It is real nasty of some people here to do so (this thread also comes to mind http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/basic-scuba-discussions/230072-aow-bs.html)

:shakehead:

If you re-read the first part of my post you will see that I DID go over with the intent to help him out and see if he was OK. What couldn’t be posted was his AH attitude about it. In so many words it was get the f out of here I know what I’m doing attitude.

I don’t have a clue how he got into that suit. It was a fabric suit and it fit like a custom made wet suit. He would have had more material left over had he painted it on. And then there were the open toe closed heel fins he crammed his boots into.

I don’t have a clue if he was ever certified or not but there were so many things wrong I doubt it.

You can only help so many. This guy IS a Darwin candidate for sure.

GaryD::::Expect criticism from the regulars when you post something like you have. One of mine is over 280 comments, mostly critical of me, and hijacked by a bunch of fin-fanatics.
