I finally got my 21st bday gift (to myself) wet Saturday and I must say what a beautiful day it was. I place the success of my first photos with the amazing visibility, the dslr I shoot topside, and the lovely girlfriend who does not mind taking our time as I fiddle with settings.

Nice! How about giving us some more info'? Which lens? Which strobe? Settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed, TTL or manual strobe)?

This was with the 14-42 mm kit lens and a sealife strobe. Settings were ISO 200 ss 1/00 and an fstop of f8-f11 depending on the depth to let some ambient light in. I found the sealife strobe to not have a wide enough throw to eliminate back scatter or the lockline arm not long enough to really reach around and prevent light from getting between the subject and the lens.

Interesting! Those are exactly the same settings I've found to give the best results with that lens. I use dual YS-01 strobes with difusers and find they give good results for close-ups and macro.

No, it's slightly negatively buoyant. But then I have more arms and clamps than you have, plus a video light.

I got my EMP1 about 3 months ago and actually just ordered a Sola 2000 and arm system from BackScatter for a really great price. I thought I would start with that since it was such a good deal, and add a strobe later. I unfortunately have only used it in the local pool and on one trip to the Blue Hole in NM which was a bit murky , I do have the Olympus housing with the little lights on the lens cover

this one is in the pool

Getting in at BH

If you are on a tight budget and plan to use just one strobe, I suggest you look for a used YS-02 and fibre optic cable. You should be able to find one at a reasonable price if you put wanted ads on the classifieds section of this board and Wetpixels. If you set the strobe to about 1/4 power (for close-up shots), the exposure should be more or less spot on. You can make minor adjustments afterwards with an image editing program.
