Hello Readers:
The No-Fly Interval and Rapid Cabin Depress
Most people have read about the recent mishap involving cabin depressurization aboard a Qantas Airlines plane. As far as I can tell, no post-dive passengers were on board. Clearly, events such as this should make divers think hard about pushing the limits of the no-fly interval.
I do not know the frequency of such events. A search of the internet gave data that from 1974 to1988, there were on average 15 incidences/year at altitudes great enough that the oxygen masks deployed. [I do not have information on more recent statistics.]
