Unusual for most, not unusual for good Ab divers.

Personally I like diving at high tide in 20+ feet of water, if you have a good entrance/exit you can work in rougher water without the problems you have in shallow water.

This year has had a lot of bad seas on the weekends so there were a lot of bad judgement calls. I went out in that kind of water twice this year and came back in empty because I decided that I didn't have enough bandwidth to stay safe on the surface and do real low viz Ab diving. I like to call it just going for a swim.
