Annual O2 cleaning?

I think what MaxBT meant was any time pure O2 is added into a cylinder, that cylinder must be O2 clean.

The only time you need O2 cleaning is when your tanks are filled with 100% O2. Banked fills can be made even in tanks used for air. Most shops might require nitrox stickers for a nitrox fill but it really isn't necessary if your shop has banked nitrox.

This is my experience also. My LDS will fill any mix up to 40% on request into a cylinder that is not cleaned for oxygen service. I'm not sure of their exact procedures, but I believe they typically PP blend into their bank cylinders, keeping 32% on hand routinely and richer mixes when they get a request. Whether they require the large green and yellow Nitrox band depends on who's asking.

My shop banks 32% so it’s not an issue. But other places I want to dive regionally don’t do that. Partial pressure blending only needing O2 clean cylinders.

I bought a pair of used HP80s last year, knowing they would require hydro this year (got a good deal). I was pleasantly surprised that they came O2 cleaned. I've kept them filled with 32% nitrox (banked). I wanted to keep them O2 clean as some places I might be diving regionally don't have banked nitrox available and I wanted to be able to get partial pressure fills without being reduced to diving a rental AL80 if I wanted nitrox.

I know what my LDS does, I'm just curious if it's standard for O2 cleaning to be required annually?

Bottomline, it’s whatever is required by the shop that does your viz. if they require annual cleaning to get that sticker than that is what you have to do. So short answer, ask your shop. As I said, mine just does the viz and if all is good will place another viz/O2 clean sticker until a hydro is required.

Filling with pure O2 and topping off with air, partial pressure blending. That part about messing with high pressure oxygen is where you need it O2 clean. Oxygen fires happen very quickly. Pure oxygen will make just about anything burn.

Pumping in premixed gas, no problem, put it in anything. Clean or not.

I believe the answer is yes. O2 clean every year. Most do not do it though but charge you for it just the same. You look at the PSI vis sticker and it has spots for marking O2 clean. Since the vis is to check among other things presence of contaminates for air use it is logical it would have to e verified contaminate free for pure O2 since 23% and above required vessels to be O2 cleaned.

any mix 23.5 and above requires O2 clean. The O2 clean is not a concern with 23.5 but the possibility exists that 23.5 culd be done by PP blending. LIke it or not 23.5 is the standard for O2 cleaning and i think there is a psi requiremtns of > 50psi that goes with the 23.5.

Most all places do that in that manor. It is not the correct way but that is the way it is being done. Most places use the same whip for nitrox as they do air and that is not right either but is what is being done. Me I'm not afraid of it all.

I've used trimix, air and nitrox in the same tanks for many years without ever having them O2 cleaned. Either your LDS does partial pressure blending or they are ripping you off every year.

Is this a joke? “Might” require nitrox stickers?

I have gotten 50% and 100% O2 fills from one of my favorite shops many times without a green and yelow sticker on my tanks. All dive shops are not the same.
