I bought a pair of used HP80s last year, knowing they would require hydro this year (got a good deal). I was pleasantly surprised that they came O2 cleaned. I've kept them filled with 32% nitrox (banked). I wanted to keep them O2 clean as some places I might be diving regionally don't have banked nitrox available and I wanted to be able to get partial pressure fills without being reduced to diving a rental AL80 if I wanted nitrox.

I know what my LDS does, I'm just curious if it's standard for O2 cleaning to be required annually?

I O2 clean mine when required. But then again I can and do my own inspections. Also the hydro place I use requalifies a lot of O2 cylinders so their process maintains O2 cleanliness. Many hydro shops do not. As such, that makes life easier as I can easily inspect the cylinders.

If you get a VIP done annually, chances are the shop will make you get a new O2 cleaning at the same time.

My shop only requires after hydro evey 5 years unless any question of contamination.

I'd never come across how often it had to be done which is why I was asking.

Viz and 02 clean are annual, learn to do them yourself. Upon hydro date I have a second set of hands and eyes take a look and clean them.

The only time you need O2 cleaning is when your tanks are filled with 100% O2. Banked fills can be made even in tanks used for air. Most shops might require nitrox stickers for a nitrox fill but it really isn't necessary if your shop has banked nitrox.

Bovine excrement ... I am not even going to bother to explain why.

Is this a joke? “Might” require nitrox stickers?
