The blue water we found yesterday off Rocky Point was still there this morning. Visibility was an incredible thirty-five feet plus. The animals were out enjoying the good conditions as well. Now that kelp is no longer classified as a plant this was a Vegan's nightmare. From delicate animals such as gorgonians, hydroids and bryozoan to solitary animals like sponges and tunicates to more mobile critters like fish and crabs the reefs were alive. About the only plant I saw was a mushroom...anchor.
Huge sheephead swam just out of camera range while curious calico bass checked out their reflection in my port. We haven't seen a sunflower star since the outbreak of sea star wasting disease last year. We continue to find evidence of affected bat stars.
Scott and Margaret Webb stopped by with news that there was good visibility at the crane off Haggerty's. We dropped there to check out even more animals. Piddock clams dot the rocky bottom while fish and crabs surround the crane. I found a large octopus guarding her nest but couldn't get my camera pointed in her hiding place.
Overall it was a great day to spend time with our pets.

Amazing how many plant-looking things underwater, aren't . . .
