Aside from a DM/guide, its important to have a good boatman who knows the sites and who can coordinate with the DM. For example, Sharkys, an offshore site, requires a drop at the right spot with the right timing to allow for the strength of the current, so that negatively descending divers will end up on the reef top 70-80 ft. down. If you dont see anything around 70 ft. its an aborted dive. I doubt if any of our Anilao bankeros can do that. Also you can drift a long way doing the ascent on blue water, a knowledgeable bankero will know the direction where to look for your SMB.
