Well, Rax, the LAST TIME I bought toothpaste at the CVS up the street, I asked to speak to the manager. I explained the they needed to provide VALUE for the toothpaste, 'cause I could always go to www.toothpaste.com and get everything they could sell me. I waved a wad of cash (which I have because I'm this REALLY, REALLY successful person) demanded free enemas in consideration of my vast toothpaste buying potential and waited for a response. The manager must just not want to sell stuff, because he laughed in my face.

I repeated the scene at Walgreens and the corner drug store.

I'm so mad I'm now making my own toothpaste out of baking soda and water. But I'll show them. I'll show them ALL.

BWHAAAAAHAAAAHAAAAA:bonk:

Did anyone click on that URL? What great web design! Great graphix.

Does anyone know if the warranty for Crest is good if purchased online? What about repairs to the cap? Are parts and labor free for lifetime? What if I buy from across the pond? Are there import tarrifs?

Do you guys all dive together? Live in the same area? Don't mind me, I'm just trying to get enough posts to become a member of the board.

Grey market toothpaste is dangerous. Besides, if we don't support our the LTS (local toothpaste store), they will go out of business. Where will we be then? I'll tell you. In the dentist's office with cavities and bad breath.

I'm not sure whether you're talking about Genesis or some of the other people who have responded.

If its Genesis, absolutely not. IMHO, diving with Genesis would violate Rule#1. I'm not from anywhere near Niceville, FL either.

I've had the pleasure of diving with several Scubaboarders. Rax took my profile picture on the Idene. However, we really don't live near each other.

Don't feel too bad for Genesis. He brings this on himself.

BTW, what type of chef?

Dude, that was the funniest this I've read in a long time. Everyone here enjoyed that and I almost peed my pants.

Free refills for you next time you come to Cali. If the boss doesn't like it, I'll cover them myself.

Well, thanks very much. But I'll settle for a tour of cool local sites if I ever manage to make it out (so far, I've only been to L.A. and San Diego and that was for work, couldn't bring the gear).

I always end up sticking up for the guy at the bottom.

Banquet Chef at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in SLC. What used to be the Hotel Utah is now a public building where we have two restaurants and a full service catering staff.

Here in Utah, people are afraid of flouride. Our water isn't floridated even though we voted to have it floridated three years ago. They are still wading through the lawsuits; so if all the LTSs go out of business here, I'll just open up my own floridation unit in my garage next to the compressor. And to heck with insurance, I'm not rich or successful so anyone suing me will only get a compressor. :D

Well, I hope that you've filled out the forms to join the vast global flouridation conspiracy. You'll need to agree that you won't sell flouride for less than the market rate.

Did you know that overexposure to fluoride causes in intense desire to post meaningless drek about your neverending disputes with retailers.

I hear that Northwestern Florida is the Fluoride capitol of the universe.

I believe that the discussion of fluoride and toothpaste has unwittingly uncovered the real issue at play with Genesis' (former) LDS. Previously, NortheastWrecks wrote:

Well, not quite a "vast global conspiracy." What NEWrecks may have forgotten or may be too young to remember is that when the addition of fluoride into municipal water supplies was first proposed, many feared that was actually part of a massive Communist plot, the goal of which was to ultimately destroy capitalism.

So now fast forward 40 or 50 years. Genesis was dispairing that the market dynamic of competition, perhaps the single-most force in capitalism, failed to produce a response from his LDS. Apparently immune to the forces of capitalism, the LDS operator possibly is a closet Communist?

(Hey NEWrecks - care to opine re the issue of minimum pricing and per se antitrust violations several pages back?)

Oh my God! We've never seen anything

Thanks, Lawman. ;) Glad you liked it. BTW, I've always had the sense of humor. I just don't always indulge it.

AllenG: The water where I live has been floridated as long as I can remember; however, I am familiar with that debate.

What Genesis is forgetting is that he is not the entire market. If he doesn't purchase the gear, someone with more class and fewer boards up his/her butt will.

It is true that the foregoing statement doesn't account for lost volume. However, the purchase/sell decision is comprised of significantly more than price.

I can easily imagine that his LDS has determined that dealing with Genesis is not pleasant. Accordingly, they will sell to him at full or near full retail. Anything less than that isn't worth having him around the shop.

IMHO, that's being generous. Personally, I'd raise the price well over retail just for him. That's how I handle it when I get a call from a potential client that I believe will be a crackpot. Quote an enormous retainer, thank them for their time and breathe a sigh of relief when they walk out the door.

If they do choose to pay, then I'm compensated for the annoyance.

The same might go for the dive shop.
