YEa, I've looked and looked and looked. I think it's a family myth. Oh- and Choate- the school- is actually a presitgious private prep school. People always ask me if I am connected to it- somewhere down the line probably so, but it's pretty far back. I've often thought of trying to get a T shirt or something fromt he school, I think it would be funny (I know, warped sense of humor).

Have some down time at work, so I did a quick family name search for you.The main geneaology boards don't know the exact origin of the name (though there seem to be a million people with the name, historically speaking), but it seems that it either came from England (Choate), Germany (Shoate) or possibly Holland (Choate?). Some people think that if it came from England, that it means "chubby person." :06:

Here's a typical link:

My dad was of German ancestry. My mom was Finnish and Irish. I'm not sure how many generations have been in the U.S. I think all of my grand parents were born in Europe but I'm not sure. My middle name is my mothers maiden name, Cleary. It was good for several drinks in an Irish pub in Aruba!

wow... well, i was born in the islands (cuba) so i am your typical mutt: my mom's family is from Spain and my father's family is mixed French, Spanish, and Arabic (most likely North African). All I can say is that the women on my father's side of the family were all strikingly beautiful.

i look a lot like my mom.

My family on my Mom's side was from Scotland. Great-great grandparents met on the boat coming over and got married. Livingston/Gardner was their names. Throw an Ecord in - a hired hand working on the farm that married the only daughter. And 5 generations here I am. On my Dad's side a lot of English I think. Not sure where my great grandmother got her 1st name but sure glad others didn't see fit to pass it on. Her name was Translyvania Holloman Hardesty Collins.

The Kerrs lived in Scotland on the border of England and were border raiders. They would raid the English and blame other Scots, raid Scots and blame the English, at least they were fair about it.

In that case, shouldnt it be spelt "Currs" ???

;)
