I think it is smart to own a analyzer for every gas that you use . I don't do tri mix now but would buy a helium analyzer before using the mix from day one. I bought my oxygen analyzer before doing enriched air . I read all the repy against deep air and the graces of helium , do they all own 2 analyzers . If you have posted anything about deep air and advocate helium saftey without investing in a analyzer you are full of B. S. That is only my opinion

Wouldn't one figure with 1 analyzer that if one of the gas % you request is right on then the other 2 gasses in Trimix would be too? For ex.. You requested Trimix 30/30 you know that they didn't give you a Nitrox, or Heliox mix so if an O2 analyser reads 30% then shouldn't the other gasses be correct?

If I were to analyze for one gas there is no certainty of the percentage and type of the other remaining gases . I would suspect the mixture is close to the fillers estimate but I would not bet my life on it. Slip a bit of argon in it and your in a world of shiii.

Clearly standards (i hope) would have called for the diffrent gas source to be clearly labled to prevent such issue... But why not just use the shops analyzer?

Charles,

Most of us who dive Trimix also mix our own gas. Before helium analyzers were easier to come by, we would calculate the percentage of helium required for a particular mix and add that. Then, since I dive a set of standard gas mixes, for me it was easy and we would simply top it up with 32% to rated pressure and analyze the 02. We knew what the remaining gases were. Now, helium analyzers are common place and most (all the trimix divers I know anyways) do analyze our 02 and our He. Last I checked I think my He/02 analyzer was about $1000 or so.

Best,

Guy

I assume from the lack of reply to this thread that most inexperienced technical mixed gas certified divers " less than 8 years " do not need analyzers . Why because they spent all that money on training and equipment and it is not a safety issue . Dive deep air , analyzers are not necessary either.

Why not reply to things you know something about?

A lot of the time we will do dives in areas we can't get mix. One option is to fill a few sets of doubles with a richer mix then top with air for the second day thus the need to have an analyzer. The next option would be to bring a T of HE and mix it yourself topping it off with air at a shop that will not have an analyzer as then do not fill HE.

90% of the mix divers I know have their own analyzers.

Not that long ago Helium analyzers were out of most peoples budget and we used O2 analyzers quite safely now they are much more availble and affordable. These guys make a very nice analyzer although I wouldn't necessarily buy all the options that go with it ie voltmeter etc. DIVESOFT.CZ - STORE

Here's a novel idea....use a calculator. You can verify it's He coming out the fill whip if the analyzer reads ZERO % o2. From there it's a matter of topping off with air or o2 to get your desired fill.
