Nice interview - thanks for sharing.

Good to see two or three people I know mentioned in the list of guys he likes to dive with (Kiwis Chris Marshall, Dave Mullins and Jonny Sunnex)

Phantom, thanks! Did you dive with them? :)

I have dived with Chris Marshall. He was at my first (and only so far) freediving competition late in 2013. We have also played Underwater Rugby together (for New Zealand) and against each other (for Auckland and Wellington) as well as attending a few UWR training sessions together in our respective cities. We also played underwater hockey against each other many years ago.

Jonny Sunnex was back in NZ early last year and came along to a couple of our Auckland Freediving Club depth training sessions. He is back again in February and I am planning on attending AIDA 2, 3 and 4 star trainign courses he will run for the club.

The free-diving community is quite close-knit.

William Trubridge was my first freediving instructor. It is amazing that a complete neophyte can take a class from a world champion. He is a really nice guy and a great instructor, and watching him dive is like watching ballet. So graceful, so beautiful. I've had other instructors since then, all great people. But it feels special to be able to say that my first instructor can dive deeper than 330 feet on one breath of air, without fins.
